William A. Daniel, Jr., M.D., FAAP
Adolescent Medicine Education Project

The Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics has launched an exciting yearlong continuing education project in adolescent medicine for our member pediatricians and their pediatric office nurses.

Results from national surveys of pediatricians indicate an intense interest in adolescent medicine issues. The complexity of physical, mental, and social development in our young patients demands a high level of expertise.

The project will include pre and post surveys of Alabama pediatricians, six regional presentations across the state by adolescent medicine specialists, educational mailings, articles on the subject on the Chapter web site, and presentations at the Annual Meeting in September, 2002.

Design and implementation of the project is under the supervision of physicians from the Division of Adolescent Medicine at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, AL. Kim Oh, M.D., FAAP is the Project Director. Physicians from the University of South Alabama will assist in the regional presentations. The project is supported by grants from the Alabama Department of Public Health and Children's Health System.

The locations and dates of the regional presentations are posted below. Mark your calendars for the meeting nearest to you! Registration forms with details of time and place will be mailed in early 2002. Two mailings of educational materials on adolescent medicine topics will be sent to each member of the Alabama Chapter during the year.
